The Story of MISE

The Idea:

We have been talking about this for years. Most of the time, it was while cooking for family and friends. After a dinner gathering at the house, someone would throw out the idea of having us cook for them everyday. We would usually just laugh about it, but sometimes I would really consider the idea. 

After years of cooking meals at my house for those special friends and family, and being asked over and over again by them and some of our past customers, we decided the joke that we had laughed about could actually be something real. We thought maybe it was time to consider offering some kind of meal prep or personal chef services as a business.

First, I made some menus and tried out some new recipes. During this process, I would email them back and forth with my brother Daniel. At the time, we came up with what was, and will be, our “Week One Menu”. The collaboration with my brother and this menu means so much to me. 

The Planning:

After putting in a lot of planning and different ways to approach this new venture, we knew that it was time. We now had to get a location to call our home. A place where we could cook out of to prepare the meals and really wanted to get this project moving as soon as possible. 

I remembered a place out in Warren RI called Hope & Main that we had read about years ago. I finally filled out some information late one night and ended up going to some of the classes that they offered to help small businesses.

 I found myself getting more and more excited as we started to get the process of making these ideas and dreams become our reality. We knew we wanted our services to be as convenient as possible for our clients, and we also wanted to have an online ordering system that is simple to use. We reached out to a lifelong family friend, as an experienced digital marketer, she was able to get this accomplished and really exceeded our expectations of what we were trying to do.

We then signed a lease with Hope & Main in late 2019 and set to launch our website early in the year of 2020. It’s been a long journey to get us to this point, but let’s say we are extremely excited to get started and truly can’t wait to serve everyone some great food!

 

MISE was created by lead chef and owner David Daniel Dualan. Coming from a whole family of passionate chefs and spending his entire childhood in restaurant kitchens gave David a yearning to make his own contribution to the food and beverage industry. Drawing his culinary inspiration from his father, grandfather, and little brother, he set out to launch MISE - a one-of-a-kind meal preparation and delivery service that aims to provide fresh, healthy, hand-made meals right to its customers’ doors. 

Most people are just too busy to create the kind of restaurant-quality meals they’d like to eat throughout the week. Each dish requires a great deal of forethought, a trip to the market, and finally - the time spent in the kitchen preparing, assembling, and cooking the ingredients. With long working hours and kids that have homework and other after school activities, you likely just don’t have enough time to put fresh, quality meals on the table. 

MISE exists to help busy people like you save hours of time each week without resorting to delivery apps and fast-food. That means enjoying delicious, hand-crafted meals around the dinner table without having to spend the time choosing what to make, sourcing the ingredients, and cooking. Instead, you spend just a few minutes each week choosing from our diverse menu of specially crafted dishes. When dinner time comes, all you have to do is warm it up and serve. 

In the culinary world, Mise en Place is a saying that describes having everything prepared for the upcoming meal. In a busy restaurant kitchen, this means having all your ingredients prepared and properly placed in order to get orders out as quickly as possible. MISE was created to help normal people be more prepared for mealtimes by giving them the opportunity to prepare their meals for the week in just a few easy steps.
